Small Antique Paintings from the 17th to the 19th Century

About this collection

A small antique painting is not a small work. The cabinet picture was the format in which a painter worked closest to the eye, on panel, on copper, on vellum or on a fine canvas, and it was valued accordingly in its own time. Nothing gathered here is a study or an offcut.

The selection runs from the seventeenth century to the nineteenth and crosses every subject, from Old Master panels and court portraits to landscapes, dog portraits and devotional scenes, most of them signed and many in their period frames. These are pictures made to be hung close, in a stair, a study or a dressing room, or gathered with others on a single wall.
