Antique Religious Paintings

About this collection

Religious painting is the depiction of sacred and biblical subjects, the central tradition of European Old Master art from the Flemish and Italian Baroque to the nineteenth century.

Our religious works range from penitent Magdalenes and devotional scenes to dramatic biblical narratives, painted in oil on canvas, on wood panel and on copper, many of them seventeenth and eighteenth century works presented in period frames. A sacred scene of this age brings depth and gravity to a study, a hallway or a quiet corner of the home. Every painting ships free from France to the USA and Canada. To read the iconography of a sacred scene, see our guide to Judith and Holofernes in Painting.
