Antique Landscape Paintings

About this collection

Antique landscape painting is the art of the open country, practised by European painters from the seventeenth century onwards, from classical and pastoral views to the Barbizon school and early modern scenes.

The landscapes presented here span several centuries and schools of European painting. Collectors will find signed works by listed painters, pastoral scenes, river views and nocturnes, many presented in period gilded frames. A large landscape remains the classic choice above a sofa or a fireplace, where it opens the wall like a window. Every painting ships free from France to the USA and Canada. To learn how to read a landscape, see our guide to The Barbizon School in Painting.

From the 19th century French countryside landscape to the pastoral landscape with animals, the antique winter snow landscape and the river landscape at dusk, the paintings gathered here cover the great subjects of European landscape art across several centuries. Collectors will find signed works by listed painters, oils on canvas and on wood panel, and honest school works whose painters remain unknown. Each work is an original oil painting, photographed in our gallery and described from the work in hand.

Every painting ships free from France to the USA and Canada. To choose with a collector's eye, start with our guide to How to Collect Antique Paintings.
