French Impressionist Paintings

About this collection

Impressionism is the school of painters who, from the 1860s onward, left the studio to capture natural light and the fleeting moment directly from life, in loose, high-keyed brushwork.

This collection gathers original French Impressionist and plein-air works of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, landscapes and portraits that carry the school's light to the turn of the century, many of them signed. To trace the movement, read our guide to Impressionism, or our collector's guide to the painters beyond the famous names.

From the French Impressionist style oil painting to the 19th century signed oil on canvas by a listed painter, the school's light lives on in the plein air landscape, the sunlit French countryside and the turn of the century portrait, on canvas and in period frames.

Every painting ships free from France to the USA and Canada. To choose with a collector's eye, start with our guide to How to Collect Antique Paintings.
