About this collection

Antique nineteenth-century painting is the art of the century in which European painters left the studio for the open air, from the Barbizon landscape and the Realist countryside to Impressionism and the finished pictures of the Salon.

Our nineteenth-century works range from Barbizon and Impressionist landscapes to pastoral and harvest scenes, hunting subjects, portraits and religious compositions, drawn from the French, Austrian and American schools, a number of them signed and dated by the painter's own hand.
