Alexandre Gaston Guignard

Gaston Guignard was a Bordeaux-born barrister who served with the dragoons in 1870 and came back from the war a painter. He showed at the Salon from 1874, won a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1889 for Au verger, and painted flocks, cattle and the open country for the rest of his life.

Who Trained Guignard

After the war he entered the studio of Jules-Jean Ferry, then completed his training under Henri Gervex and Ferdinand Humbert.

Stories about Guignard

Bought by the State.

In 1894 he showed Le Troupeau à l'abreuvoir, a flock at the watering place, at the Salon of the Société Nationale. The State bought it in 1897, and it belongs today to the Musée d'Orsay.
