Formula 1 Racing Car in the Rain, Original Hand Painted Oil on Canvas by Victor Spahn, Signed

The car is red on a red ground. It comes toward the viewer at three-quarters with its nose to the lower left, and the only things that pull it out of the background are the black of the tyres, the dark sweep of the rear wing and the curved bar over the cockpit.

Oil on canvas, 19 x 24 in (48 x 61 cm), signed "Spahn" lower left, 21st century, unframed.

The body is laid on in short, thick strokes of red, orange and yellow. Around the car the red breaks into a fine white speckle that thickens into bursts of spray at the foot of each tyre. Below, the track is dragged sideways in bands of black, violet, pink, blue and green, as if the colours of the car and the sky had been smeared onto wet tarmac.

The painting is in good original condition. The canvas sits flat on a keyed stretcher with a central crossbar, the paint surface shows no losses, and the unpainted tacking edges carry drips of red from the studio.

The tyres, the wing and the track are all dragged sideways, while the halo is drawn in one clean, unbroken curve.
