Signed lower left A. Andrieux. 8 x 10 inches (20.5 x 25.5 cm), the frame 13 x 15 inches (33 x 38 cm). Reeded gilt wood frame. Good condition.

The snow is laid on with a loaded brush in thick cream strokes. It covers a broad valley floor broken by dark patches of scrub and rock, and every hollow in it is marked with blue and lavender.

Beyond, low ridges run back to a line of mountains with snow on their flanks. The sky above them is turquoise, crossed by heavy cream clouds. Nothing is drawn. Every form is made by the stroke that lays it, and on a panel this small the strokes are almost as wide as the rocks they describe.
