Paul Audra
1869 to 1948
Paul Audra came out of the atelier of Gustave Moreau, where Matisse and Rouault were his friends, and went home to teach. He directed the school of decorative arts in his native Valence, then the art school in Nice, and showed at the Salon d'Automne in the years when Fauvism was born.

Who Trained Audra
After the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon he went to Paris, into the atelier of Gustave Moreau. He also worked with Jules-Élie Delaunay and Puvis de Chavannes.

The Life of Paul Audra, Place by Place
He trained in Lyon and Paris, stayed in touch with the friends of Moreau's atelier, and spent his working life teaching others to draw.
He is born here in 1869, and later directs the town's school of decorative and industrial art.
He studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in the atelier of Gustave Moreau, beside Matisse and Rouault.
He heads the art school here from 1911 to 1934, and dies in Nice in 1948.

A letter to Desvallières.
On 24 August 1905 he wrote from Valence to the painter Georges Desvallières about the coming Salon d'Automne. He thought of sending a portrait of the poet Louis Le Cardonnel and a stained-glass design of Music and Dance, and asked after Rouault.
